The groom’s guide to
planning the perfect day

When you think of wedding planning, the groom isn't always the first person to pop into your head. Sure, he'll be there when the bride walks down the aisle. But as we all know, the bride usually has a list of wishes for her wedding day and therefore most men will leave the planning up to her. However, this doesn't mean that you can't jump in to help make the day absolutely perfect. Whether you're a hands-off guy who wants to leave the details to your bride or you want to be there for every decision, follow the guidelines below and you'll both end up with a wedding day to remember.

Planning a wedding can be very stressful and the first rule of thumb to follow is to offer your help. This doesn't mean you'll be forced to spend hours perusing bridal magazines or tying bows on favors. Simply offering to help in ways you feel comfortable will ease her stress immensely. Some grooms love the idea of choosing colors and attending bridal fairs, while others would rather help behind the scenes by making phone calls to vendors or taking the invitations to the post office. Whatever you can do to help check things off the to-do list will get you involved and let your bride know this special day matters to you as much as it does to her.

Many men believe that wedding planning is best left to the bride and her family. Not because they have no opinion, but because they feel their ideas or opinions may not be well-received. Occasionally there is a "Bride-zilla" out there who wants to do things her own way, but most women truly appreciate any input their grooms have to offer. Planning a wedding and making so many decisions can be overwhelming and most brides would love a little support from their fiancé. So, don't be shy when it comes to offering up your ideas or opinions. Just try to be sensitive to her needs and wants.

Even if you're not involved in all the little decisions she's had to make, simply taking your fiancée out for a quiet evening and listening to all she's been doing can help ease any frustration she might have. Plus, it's a way for you to reconnect with each other by focusing on your relationship rather than just the wedding. So many brides get caught up in the whole drama of planning the perfect day that they can lose track of reality for a while. Taking time out to talk, listen and help with any challenges will show your bride how much you care, reminding her of why you're the perfect man for her.
